2005 US Lacrosse WDIA Championship Field Released

BALTIMORE — Sixteen teams have been selected to participate in the 2005 US Lacrosse Women’s Division Intercollegiate Associates National Championship, which will be held from May 12-14 at the National Sports Center in Blaine, Minn. The event is sponsored by Lax World, Sports Her Way and STX.

Four-time defending champion Cal Poly is in this year’s field, but the No. 1 seed is UC-Santa Barbara, which defeated Cal Poly to win the Western Women’s Lacrosse League championship this year. All eight quarterfinalists from last year’s championship are back in the field this year, including runner-up Santa Clara.

Six schools—Arizona State, Colorado, Lindenwood, Maryland (club), Minnesota-Duluth and Washington—are making their first appearances in the WDIA championship.

Listed below are the opening round match-ups for the 2005 US Lacrosse WDIA Championships (note that "club" is listed after schools that have varsity programs):

Thursday, May 12
9 a.m. – No. 7 Colorado vs. No. 10 Santa Clara
9 a.m. – No. 8 Maryland (club) vs. No. 9 Arizona State
10 a.m. – No. 5 Michigan vs. No. 12 Rhode Island
10 a.m. – No. 6 Florida vs. No. 11 Delaware (club)
1 p.m. – No. 4 Cal Poly vs. No. 13 Texas A&M
1 p.m. – No. 3 Navy vs. No. 14 Washington
2 p.m. – No. 1 UC-Santa Barbara vs. No. 16 Minnesota-Duluth
2 p.m. – No. 2 Colorado State vs. No. 15 Lindenwood

The championship game will be played on Saturday, May 14 at 4:30 p.m. in the main stadium at the National Sports Center. CSTV will also air a one-hour highlight show on the championships that will air initially on June 2 at 8 p.m.(ET).

The men’s fields for the Division A and B championships were announced on May 2. The men’s championship begins on May 10.
