2005 U.S Women's Lacrosse World Cup Team Named

BALTIMORE — US Lacrosse has announced the 16 players selected to represent the United States in the 2005 International Federation of Women’s Lacrosse Associations’ World Cup. The 2005 IFWLA World Cup, featuring a record 10 countries, will be hosted by US Lacrosse from June 23 to July 2 at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.

The roster, selected by head coach Sue Stahl and her staff, includes 12 players with previous World Cup experience. Well-established stars Danielle Gallagher, Cherie Greer and Jess Wilk are each playing on their fourth World Cup teams. Newcomers to the World Cup team include three 2003 college graduates, including 2003 Tewaaraton Trophy winner Rachael Becker.

Four members of the team are collegiate head coaches: Kelly Amonte Hiller (Northwestern, 2005 NCAA Division I champion), Sarah Nelson (Harvard), Bonnie Rosen (Connecticut) and Jess Wilk (Virginia, field hockey).

The U.S. has won four straight World Cup championships and five of the six championships played all-time. This is only the second time the event has been played in the U.S., and the first since 1986. The U.S. is attempting to become the first host nation to win the World Cup. Complete information on the World Cup can be found at www.uslacrosse.org/worldcup.
