Flatley Selected as GM for 2008 U.S. U-19 Men's Team

BALTIMORE — The US Lacrosse Men’s Division International Committee has announced that Tom Flatley of Floral Park, N.Y., has been selected as the general manager for the United States Under-19 men’s lacrosse team that will compete in the 2008 International Lacrosse Federation U-19 World Championship in the city of Coquitlam in British Columbia, Canada.

Flatley, a lacrosse coach for more than 40 years, will be responsible for helping to coordinate all logistical operations for the team. He previously served as the general manager for the 1996, 1999 and 2003 U.S. teams that all won Under-19 world championships. Flatley, in his 22nd year as the head football coach at Garden City (N.Y.) High School, was the head coach for the U.S. senior team that won the 1982 ILF World Championship. He is a past president of the Long Island Metropolitan Chapter of US Lacrosse.

US Lacrosse is accepting applications for the following staff positions for the 2008 U-19 team through Nov. 1, 2006: assistant general manager, equipment manager, athletic trainer and physician. Player tryouts will take place in the summer of 2007, but players should not apply to try out now. Applications for tryouts will be distributed through the US Lacrosse Men’s Division Coaches Council high school area chairmen in early 2007.
