Tryouts for Three U.S. National Teams Aug. 5-9 |

BALTIMORE — Tryouts for three U.S. women’s lacrosse national teams will be held from Aug. 5-9 at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County. Tryouts will be held for the 2006-07 Elite and Developmental teams as well as the 2007 Under-19 team.
Tryouts for the 2006-07 U.S. Elite and Developmental teams will be held from Aug. 5-6 and will feature more than 130 of the nation’s top lacrosse players. Included among the participants are the past four recipients of the Tewaaraton Trophy as the nation’s outstanding collegiate player (Princeton’s Rachael Becker Dececco, Virginia’s Amy Appelt, Duke’s Katie Chrest and Northwestern’s Kristen Kjellman) and four members of the 2005 U.S. World Cup team (Dececco, Quinn Carney, Kristen Sommar and Jess Wilk). This portion of the tryouts is open to the public.
Nearly 150 players representing 19 states will be participating for one of 24 spots on the 2007 U.S. Under-19 team from Aug. 7-9. Tryouts for the U-19 team are closed to the public.
The next IFWLA Under-19 World Championship will be held from Aug 4-12, 2007 in Peterborough, Ontario in Canada. The U.S. defeated Australia 21-8 in Towson, Md. to win the 2003 IFWLA U-19 championship.
The U.S. Elite and Developmental teams have two scheduled weekends of competition in the upcoming months. The teams will play top college programs during the Stars and Stripes Weekend from Sept. 30-Oct. 1 in Northern Virginia and during the Champions Challenge Weekend from Jan. 27-28, 2007 in Orlando, Fla.
