BALTIMORE — US Lacrosse has announced the staff for the U.S. Women’s Lacrosse Team. Joining the staff are Jennifer Ulehla (assistant coach), Mac Ford (assistant coach), Dwayne Carnes (strength and conditioning coach), Elizabeth Kittleman (manager) and Amy Renner (trainer). The selections were made by the US Lacrosse Women’s Division National Teams Committee and head coach Sue Heether and approved by the US Lacrosse Women’s Division Board of Governors.
The positions run through August 2006 at which time the staff members will be eligible for reappointment.
Ulehla is entering her second season as the head women’s lacrosse at Temple University after an eight-year stint at James Madison where she led the Dukes to three Colonial Athletic Association championships and six NCAA tournament berths, including a semifinal appearance in 2000. A two-time All-American player at the University of Maryland, Ulehla has extensive involvement with the national teams program. She was a player from 1990 to 1995, helping the U.S. win the World Cup in 1993, and served as an assistant coach for the U.S. Developmental Team from 2004 to 2005.
Ford, a standout men’s player, has coached girls’ lacrosse since 1994. Ford was one of the founding members of the Rome Lacrosse Club for girls and has coached with the organization for the last six years. He currently works with the club’s team of 2008 high school graduates after a successful run with the 2006 team. As a player, Ford was a two-time All-American at North Carolina, named the ACC Player of the Year in 1985 and played on the school’s 1982 NCAA championship team. He later played on the U.S. men’s team and was voted the top attackman at the 1990 ILF World Championship when he helped the U.S. win the title.
Carnes has served as a certified personal trainer at the Maryland Athletic Club since 1997 and is also co-founder and performance director for the Performance Trainer Center in Baltimore. Carnes, a collegiate basketball official for over 10 years, is certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
Kittleman serves as an assistant coach at Haverford College and previously served as an assistant coach and director of lacrosse operations at Stanford University. She’s a 1998 graduate of Union College where she played four years of varsity lacrosse and soccer.
Renner is a certified athletic trainer who currently serves as a registered nurse at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego. An officer in the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps, Renner graduated from the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing in 2005 and received her undergraduate degree from Elon College in 2000. She served as the head student trainer at Elon and has previous experience working as a certified athletic trainer at the HealthSouth Spine Center in Towson, Md.
