BALTIMORE – Behind Lacrosse, a 30-minute television show highlighting lacrosse as not just a sport, but a way of life, kicks off its second season on College Sports Television (CSTV) at 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 15. The show will have 12 unique episodes and continue airing on Thursday evenings at 8 p.m. through the spring lacrosse season. Each show will also be rebroadcast throughout the weekend surrounding CSTV’s line-up of college lacrosse coverage.
In addition to its national airings on CSTV, Behind Lacrosse will also be shown regionally on the new Mid Atlantic Sports Network (MASN) on Fridays, beginning on March 23, and rebroadcast surrounding MASN’s weekend college lacrosse games. Each episode will feature new game highlights from CSTV’s and MASN’s lacrosse broadcasts.
"I’m blown away with what is going on in only our second season," said Behind Lacrosse Producer/Director Michael Ivan Schwartz. "We’re doubling our episodes, adding a regional broadcast and creating new segments that are just plain fun to watch."
Returning to the line-up is the "Behind the Face" segment, featuring a mini-documentary on a key person or event in the lacrosse community, and the "Behind the Fans" segment, which highlights video clips of local games submitted by viewers. A new segment, called "Behind the Tradition," will be sponsored by shaft manufacturer Talon Lacrosse and focus on the history and the spirit of the game, while West Point’s Corey Crane will handle the instruction on another new segment dedicated to strength and conditioning.
"Talon Lacrosse is honored and excited to be working with Behind Lacrosse to sponsor this new segment," said Talon’s President, Doug Appleton. "By interviewing lacrosse historians and legends about the spirit and traditions of lacrosse, we hope to educate and inspire those new to lacrosse on the culture of the sport."
US Lacrosse continues to sponsor the weekly taping of the show at the Lacrosse Museum and National Hall of Fame in Baltimore. Former Georgetown University All American Sheehan Stanwick Burch returns as the show’s host.
The premiere episode includes a feature from the 16th Annual Hawaii Lacrosse Tournament. Future episodes include a special segment on how the game has grown in the Pacific Northwest, interviews with Major League Lacrosse’s John Christmas and Duke’s Head Coach John Danowski, and advice on shooting by professional lacrosse all-star Tom Marechek.
