Lacrosse Magazine Releases 2008 Preseason College Rankings

BALTIMORE (December 19, 2007) — Eight of the 11 teams that won college lacrosse national championships in 2007 have been picked to repeat as title-winners in 2008 in Lacrosse magazine’s annual preseason college rankings, released today.

The rankings, compiled by Lacrosse magazine staff after consultations with coaches, predict Northwestern to win its fourth straight NCAA Division I women’s championship. Duke has been tabbed as the preseason favorite to capture the NCAA Division I men’s championship.

Other champions from 2007 selected to repeat: Le Moyne (NCAA Division II men), Salisbury (NCAA Division III men), Franklin and Marshall (NCAA Division III women), Onondaga (National Junior College Athletic Association men), Anne Arundel (NJCAA women), Cal Poly (US Lacrosse Women’s Division Intercollegiate Associates) and BYU (Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association Division I).

West Chester has been picked to win the NCAA Division II women’s championship, while Westminster (Utah) was selected to capture the MCLA Division II crown.

Lacrosse magazine is the flagship publication of US Lacrosse, a 225,000-member, non-profit organization that serves as the sport’s national governing body. The magazine is a monthly publication, and subscriptions are available via membership in US Lacrosse (visit www.uslacrosse.org to join or for more information).

The rankings appear in the January issue of Lacrosse magazine. Expanded college previews will run in both the February and March issues. Join US Lacrosse prior to Dec. 28 to start a subscription with the February issue.

US Lacrosse also maintains an Internet component of the magazine, Lacrosse Magazine Online (LMO), at www.laxmagazine.com. The full 2008 preseason rankings can also be accessed at LMO. Like the print publication, LMO covers all levels of the sport and is updated constantly throughout the season.
