Baltimore, Md (August 3, 2008) - US Lacrosse has named the 49 players that will represent the U.S. women's national teams in 2008-09. The announcement came after three days of tryouts at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.

The player pool will be divided into Elite and Developmental teams following US Lacrosse's Stars and Stripes weekend Oct. 10-13. All players are eligible to represent Team USA at the 2009 IFWLA World Cup in Prague, Czech Republic, with the final 18-player roster expected to be announced following the US Lacrosse Champions Challenge in January 2009.

The roster (below) includes eight players affiliated with four-time defending NCAA Division I champion Northwestern University, the most of any school.

Also of note:

• Two members of the 2007 gold medalist U.S. Under-19 team made the cut: Duke's Sarah Bullard, the team captain, and Colleen McCaffrey, a rising freshman at Johns Hopkins. McCaffrey is the lone player without previous college experience.

• Two-time U.S. World Cup team member Quinn Carney is the lone holdover from the 2005 silver medalist. However, four '05 World Cup alternates - Michele DeJuliis, Katie Chrest, Amy Appelt and Acacia Walker - remain in the running for Prague.

• DeJuliis, a 1998 graduate of Penn State and U.S. national teams member since 1994, is the oldest active player at age 33. McCaffrey, who'll turn 18 in August, is the youngest.

• Defender Alicia Burkhart is believed to be the first U.S. national team member from the University of Oregon, which launched its Division I varsity program in 2005.

• Mallory Poole, a 2008 U.S. Developmental Team member and C.W. Post graduate, is the lone player named from a non-Division I program. She helped lead the Pioneers to a Division II national title in 2007.
