Jalbert Named Top Midfielder on All-World Team

LONDON, Ontario – Jay Jalbert, who scored two goals in the championship game and finished the tournament with 15 goals and one assist, received the Best Midfielder award, and three Americans were named to the 2006 International Lacrosse Federation (ILF) World Championships All-World Team following play at the University of Western Ontario.

Michael Powell, who led Team USA with 32 points on 12 goals and 20 assists in the tournament, was named to the All-World Team at attack. He was joined by defenseman John Gagliardi, who limited Canada’s John Grant Jr. to just two goals in the final, and midfielder Jalbert. It marked the first All-World honors for each of the Americans.

Geoff Snider, won 144 of 195 faceoffs throughout tournament play to key Canada’s run to the title, was named the ILF’s Best and Fairest Player (Most Valuable Player). Four countrymen joined him on the All-World Team, including Jeff Zwicki (Best Attackman), Brodie Merrill (Best Defenseman) and Chris Sanderson (Best Goalie).
