The U.S. boys under-19 lacrosse team raced to the most dominant victory in program history by defeating Japan, 27-0, at the 2008 International Lacrosse Federation U-19 championship at Percy Perry Stadium in Coquitlam, British Columbia.
It was the first shut-out in U.S. U-19 history, and also the team’s largest margin of victory ever. The previous record was 26 goals, set in a 30-4 victory over Japan in 1996 in Toyko. The U.S. lead was 17-0 at halftime.
Craig Dowd was the U.S. leader in points scored with two goals and five assists; Andrew Feinberg (6g, 1a) had the edge in goals scored. Four other U.S. players scored multiple goals, including Matt MacKrides (5g, 1a) and Jack McBride (4g, 2a). Attacker Ryan Young added a goal and four assists.
Starting goalie Adam Ghitelman made four saves in a perfect defensive effort, and second-half keeper Tyler Fiorito made five stops.
Japanese starting goalie Kosuke Nakai made 13 saves in the first three quarters. Backup keeper Takeshi Minowa made one save in the fourth quarter.
Matt Dolente won 15 of 21 face off attempts for the U.S.; teammate Nick Elsmo won four of five attempts.
