Officers:
President, Ayana Green-Oliver
In her own words, "I admit it, I am addicted. I simply love the sport." Ayana has been involved with the sport of lacrosse since her days back in high school at the George School. She played lacrosse for three years and during her senior year she was a key defense wing on her Friends League Championship squad. Ayana went on to attend the University of Pennsylvania majoring in both Economics and Communications. She participated on the JV team for two years. Rather than continue her lacrosse career, she decided to pursue the once in a lifetime opportunity to study abroad in Durban, South Africa. Upon graduation, she was compelled to get involved again. She soon founded Gotham Women's Lacrosse, a post-collegiate team based in New York City.
Gotham has had tremendous success – winning several tournaments, features in US Lacrosse Magazine, consistent participation and more. Ayana was even invited to participate as a guest columnist for AllLacrosseAmerica.com chronicling her experience building Gotham. The most fulfilling accomplishment is that under new leadership, and close to six years later, Gotham continues to be a place for women to bond on and off the field. Gotham has also been a way for Ayana to get more involved with the game on a national level. She is President of US Lacrosse Women's Division Post-Collegiate Council, where she is charged with the task of promoting and strengthening women's post-collegiate lacrosse across the country. She is on the US Lacrosse Board of Governor's where she represents the interests of the post-collegiate community.
Ayana is passionate about promoting the diversity of the game not only across gender lines, but cultural lines. Ayana is the former Communications Co-Chair of the B.R.I.D.G.E. committee. She is also the former Women's Coach of the Brooklyn Admirals, a B.R.I.D.G.E. team based in New York. In an effort to combine the two, she founded and continues to Chair the US Lacrosse B.R.I.D.G.E. Girls Play Day. This one-day event brings together 100 girls, clinicians, program administrators and parents to share in a full day featuring an exhibition, clinic, and round robin play.
Ayana is committed to giving back to the sport that has and continues to give her so much. Plus she just loves it!
Vice-President, Bridget Olp Bridget grew up in Catonsville, Maryland, where she played many sports including lacrosse. In 1995 she attended the University of Illinois and played on the first women’s club lacrosse team. Playing center all four years, she provided leadership in the role of captain for three years and club president for two years. After graduating from Illinois, Bridget moved to Chicago and began umpiring high school lacrosse. She also played a vital role in reviving the only post collegiate team in Chicago, the Chicago Women’s Lacrosse Club. Currently, she is umpiring at the collegiate and high school level, as well as playing with the Chicago Women’s Lacrosse Club.
Immediate Past President, Jessica Giddings
Jessica began playing lacrosse at Rutland High School in Rutland, Vermont and continued to play in college at the University of Georgia. While on the club team at UGA she won three Southeastern Women's Lacrosse League Championships and attended three national tournaments. In 2000 and 2001 she was one of three captain/player coaches for the team and was named to the All-SWLL team in 2001. During Jessica's senior year, 2002, she was awarded the Jenn Eames Sportsmanship award, the league's highest honor. While at UGA her club founded and coached the first high school team outside of the Atlanta metro area. This team is now a fully-funded varsity lacrosse team.
Jessica has also been very active off the lacrosse field. During all four years of college Jessica was a member of the southeastern women's lacrosse board. In 2001 she became Vice President of the SWLL and held this position until 2004. From 2000-2003 she was the player's representative on the Women's Division Intercollegiate Associates Council. Jessica began officiating at local high schools and later at the collegiate level. She is currently a locally rated official in the Washington D.C. area.
In May of 2002, Jessica joined the Women's Division Board of Governor's as one of the Post Collegiate Clubs representatives and has been in this position since. She still manages to find time to play. From 2002-2004 she played on the Atlanta women's lacrosse club and currently plays with Annaplax out of Annapolis MD.
Outside of lacrosse, Jessica is currently pursuing her PhD in Emerging Infectious Diseases. She will officially become Dr. Giddings sometime in 2009.
Treasurer, Traci Hudson
Secretary, Teri Fox It’s safe to say that lacrosse is in Teri’s blood…literally. Teri comes from a long line of lacrosse players on her mother’s side. Her grandfather, mother, and several of her uncles played in high school in Maryland. One uncle continues to play on one of Boston’s super masters club teams.
Teri's lacrosse career began while growing up in her hometown of Bel Air, Maryland where her mother taught her how to throw and catch in their backyard. Teri joined her high school team in Bel Air, playing center and attack wing. Majoring in chemistry at Towson University impeded her playing for the Division I team, but Teri kept her game alive by playing in her hometown's summer league.
Shortly after graduation, she joined the former BWLA club team in Baltimore. A few years later she moved to the west coast. It took a while to tap into the growing lacrosse scene on the west coast, but eventually she joined L.A.’s club team, Tricheck. After moving further south to San Diego a few years ago, she joined the San Diego Women’s Lacrosse Club. The team has undergone some reorganization over the last few years. Now, as President, she hopes to make it as strong as ever and she’s having a remarkable time in the process.
Committee Chairs/Members:
Marketing Co-Chair, Angela Kaake Angela, better known as Angie, started playing as a junior at the University of Washington. Angie was exposed to lacrosse relatively late in life. Lacrosse was pretty new on the West Coast and there were no high school teams when she was growing up. That didn’t stop her from getting involved. She served as Vice President of the Washington Women's Lacrosse Club at UW for two years. After graduation, she started the second post-collegiate club team in Seattle, currently known as Breakaway Women's Lacrosse Club (a lacrosse retailer Breakaway Sports is the sponsor). Angie has served as President since its founding in 1994 and through team mergers and countless name changes (f.k.a., Laxon, Redhook, Relax).
Angie also has served as the co-President and league scheduler for the Northwest Women's Lacrosse League, which includes club and college teams from Montana, Idaho, Oregon and Washington, and served on the board of her local Washington USL chapter in that capacity. Angie has also been a referee since 1990 and helped start and coach the first middle school girls' club (non-school affiliated) team in the Seattle area back in 1998. Despite her leadership positions, Angie remains active as a player. She has played at numerous PCC tournaments, including Vail, Hawaii, Lax Vegas, Mardi Gras, Lake Tahoe, and Victoria.
Marketing Co-Chair, Meg Matthews
Megan has been involved with lacrosse for over 14 years now. She began playing goalie in home town of White Plains, NY because she was promised that she would not have to do the long distance runs. She found that to be true in high school but when she went off to play at Quinnipiac University, she had to do the runs. She played four years as goalie at Quinnipiac University becoming the all-time leader for Quinnipiac Lacrosse in every statistical category. She has worked various camps and clinics throughout New York and Connecticut. Megan became a founding coach of Westchester Elite Lacrosse for high school players in the greater New York area where she can get her year round lacrosse fix. She also runs Westchester Women's Lacrosse club where she still plays goalie. Through playing on her club she became friends with Ayana Green who brought her on board of the WPDCC. She looks forward to expanding the opportunities for women to play long after their college career is over.
