What happens when you take spectacular mountain scenery, lacrosse players from across the country, everyone's favorite summer holiday, and a spiked watermelon? In one particular instance it sparked an idea that would eventually lead to the creation of a new women's team within the well-established Crease Monkeys organization. Since that fateful day in Vail, Colorado under the Fourth of July fireworks almost five years ago, it has led to Great Friends, Great Times, Great Places and Great Lacrosse- the rare combination of factors on which Crease Monkeys Lacrosse is based.

Since the Monkettes first debut in 2001 in New Orleans, we have stuck true to that unique recipe for success, traveling to the furthest reaches of the globe in search of good lacrosse and good times with teammates who have become great friends. While there is a core group of 10 players from the East Coast, rosters constantly change and have included US and Japanese National Team players, collegiate All-Americans, as well as players from Canada and Japan. Strictly a tournament team, we are not affiliated with a league, and therefore have the flexibility to choose when and where we compete. Usually these decisions are based on cost (as we are self-funded) and individual work schedules.

Our itinerary over the years has included stops in New Orleans, the Big Apple, Vail, Ocean City, Lake Placid and Hawaii. In addition, we've been lucky enough to travel as far as Japan and New Zealand. Our only requirement is that the Monkettes have enough vacation days and a good attitude on and off the field! While the Monkettes earn positive results on the playing field, the true essence of this team isn't measured in victories or in goals or in stats.

The opportunities that have come from playing lacrosse for the Crease Monkeys -the friendships that have been forged, the eye-opening travels, the fact that a sport like lacrosse has been able to make the world a little smaller and a lot friendlier - is truly incredible. Whether we're stuck in the airport in Hawaii, stranded in a train station in Tokyo, or on an overnight boat trip in a storm in New Zealand, the monkeys are always laughing, always looking on the bright side and always looking for the next good time together. Lacrosse has brought us together and has opened doors for us around the world. The Crease Monkeys motto rings true - it's about Great Friends, Great Times, Great Places, Great Lacrosse.
