Nomination Criteria
This US Lacrosse award recognizes the best varsity high school players in the United States. Though this award is given through the US Lacrosse Chapters, All-Americans selected in every chapter must be considered "the best in the United States", not just the best in the chapter. While the US Lacrosse Girls' High School All American Honors are selected by the Chapter All American Committee, the qualifications and quality of players must be consistent across the United States. The players selected are the best in the country as compared with each other, regardless of their region of the country (not just the best in each chapter). Many chapters will not use all of their possible selections in a given year and that is important in maintaining the integrity of this honor. In addition to exhibiting superior skills and techniques, exceptional game sense, good sportsmanship and outstanding knowledge of the game of lacrosse, every player who is nominated as a US Lacrosse Girls' High School All-American must also be considered an impact player on a Division I collegiate level team. Specifically, nominees must meet a minimum of 4 of the 7 criteria listed below and accumulate a total of penalty points that is less tahn or equal to 25% of the total number of games played during the season to be considered:

  • Two-year varsity letter winner
  • Previous season and/or current season if available: First Team State/Area/League/District Level Recognition
  • US Lacrosse National Tournament Regional Team participation or US Lacrosse U-19 Team Training Squad member
  • Previous US Lacrosse Girls' High School All-American Recognition
  • Varsity letter in a second sport
  • Play for a current League/Division/State Champion or runner up team
  • Captain and or other established team honor recipient (MVP, Coaches Award, Most Improved)

Players who are nominated for either Academic All-American or All-American recognition must accumulate a total of penalty points that is less than or equal to 25% of the total number of games played during that season. For each Yellow Card that a player receives during the season, that player is assigned one "Penalty Point". For each Red Card, a player is assigned two "Penalty Points". (Example: A girl plays in 20 games, she is allowed five points. Those points could come from five yellow cards or one red and three yellows. If another girl played in 24 games, she would be allowed six points, etc.)

* If a player cannot meet a minimum of four of the above criteria, she should not be nominated.

Nomination Process

The nomination process is a three-step process:

C. Coaches nominating multiple players must rank the players 1-N.

Determining the number of All-Americans & Honorable Mention awards per US Lacrosse Chapter

• All-American numbers are based on the number of Girls' Head Varsity High School Coach Memberships of varsity school programs, during the recognized playing season, in each chapter and region as of April 1st of that school year (maximum of one head coach per school). Coaches must be current members throughout the season including playoffs. (Example – if your coaching membership expires 4/30/09 and your season ends in May, you must renew through 4/30/10 by April 1 in order to be eligible. If your membership expires 6/30/09 and your season ends in June, you do not have to renew as you are current through the season.)

• The All-American Selection Chair for each US Lacrosse Chapter is responsible for promoting US Lacrosse membership to the coaches in their chapter region.

• The All-American Selection Chair for each US Lacrosse Chapter is responsible for checking all head coach memberships in their chapter area as of the April 1st, 2009 deadline.

• The Chapter Representative of the Coaches Council — HS Committee for the women’s game MUST e-mail their final roster of Coaches Council members to Liz Piper epiper@uslacrosse.org by April 15th, 2009.

• Coaches Council - High School Committee President, Beth Stone (bstone@nicholsschool.org) must verify the All-American and Honorable Mention numbers.

  1. The numbers are based on the following formula:
    # Coaches Memberships (Head Coach) per Chapter X 18 X .01
  2. All-American allotted numbers do not have to be used if the "All-American" quality of player is not present.

US Lacrosse Chapter All-American Selection Committee

• US Lacrosse All-American honors will be selected by the US Lacrosse All-American Selection Committee of each Chapter. Each league in a chapter must have equivalent representation on the US Lacrosse All-American selection committee (based on the number of teams in each league — including private schools, public schools, etc.) The chapter chair shall determine the makeup of the committee and determine the number of representatives from each league in the chapter.

Each league must vote to select their committee member(s), giving any qualified coach in the league an opportunity to apply to be on the selection committee via a written application available on the US Lacrosse Web site. Each league member should have the opportunity to review all of the applications before voting. We recommend that the committee also include a neutral member who is well informed in the lacrosse community and who has an opportunity to watch the players in the chapter, (i.e. former area coach, former U.S. National Team player, official).

• Coaches who are members of the All-American or Academic All-American Committee can not advertise in any literature, brochure or web site in which he or she may benefit by serving on this committee.

• Final US Lacrosse Chapter All-American and Honorable Mention selections are to be submitted through a secured web access page of the US Lacrosse Web site (www.uslacrosse.org) by June 6, 2009.

• US Lacrosse All-American Nomination Forms should be kept on file with the US Lacrosse Chapter All-American Selection Committee Chair for a period of two years.

CONFLICT OF INTEREST: Every coach applying to be a member of the selection committee for the All-American or Academic All-American Committees must complete the Selection Committee Application form in full and fully disclose all activities or associations which may in any way be construed as a conflict of interest.
• Form available here (pdf)

 Announcement & Certificates

• Chapters may release their US Lacrosse All-American honorees to their local media and coaches two days after they have received confirmation by US Lacrosse that they have been received.

• A press release for the 2009 US Lacrosse National Girls' High School All-American and Honorable Mention honorees will be sent to all US Lacrosse media contacts by June 30, 2009, and posted on the US Lacrosse Web site.
