UNITED STATES 13, ENGLAND 5

ANNAPOLIS, Md. —
Kelly Amonte Hiller scored three of the game's first five goals and assisted on a fourth to spark the United States to an eventual 7-0 lead on its way to a 13-5 win over England Thursday night on the first day of play at the 2005 International Federation of Women's Lacrosse Associations (IFWLA) World Cup at Navy's Glenn Warner Field. Quinn Carney also scored three goals to earn Player of the Match honors as the U.S. improved to 1-0 in Pool A before 1,000 fans.

Hiller scored unassisted 3:20 into the game and followed that with another solo marker 63 seconds later. She then fed Lauren Aumiller for a goal at 23:05 before making it 5-0 on a pass from Randall Goldsborough midway through the half. Carney scored two of her three in the second half, including the stanza's first marker nearly 21 minutes in after England had battled back to maintain a six-goal deficit.

Felicity Hermsen scored two goals to lead England (0-1), including the first of two in a 34-second span as England tried to rally late. Katy Bennet tallied unassisted to bring England within 10-5, but Carney put a stop to the run at 7:14 when she scored on a pass from Kristin Sommar.

Lauren Aumiller, Danielle Gallagher and Crista Samaras added two goals a piece for the Americans, who commanded a 16-6 advantage in shots in the first half.
