ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Valerie Houston scored three of her game-high four goals during a 10-0 run that sandwiched halftime as Scotland ran away to a 14-2 Pool B victory over the Czech Republic at the 2005 IFWLA World Cup at Navy's Glenn Warner Field. The Czech Republic is idle until a 5 p.m. Monday game with Germany. Scotland and Japan will draw in a key Pool B game at 5 p.m. Sunday.

UNITED STATES 15, CANADA 7

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — The United States overcame a slow start to defeat Canada 15-7 in a Pool A game on Friday evening in the IFWLA World Cup. Canada led 2-1 early and it was 2-2 midway through the first half before the United States closed the half on a 3-0 run to take a 5-2 halftime lead. Crysti Foote scored for Canada to open the second half to make it 5-3, but the U.S. then scored six straight goals to put the game away.

"Sue (Stahl) called a timeout and she was like everyone just needs to calm down and we did that," said U.S. midfielder Lauren Aumiller. "We didn't think about it, we just went out there and played our game. We started running the ball and our fast breaks well and that definitely helped out in the end."

Quinn Carney led the U.S. with six goals and an assist to earn player of the match honors for the second time in the tournament. Aumiller added five goals for the U.S., including two of the last three goals of the first half and two more during the 6-0 run in the second half. Foote led Canada with four goals and Jessica Brownridge added two goals and two assists.

The U.S. improved to 3-0 for the tournament with the victory and will face archrival Australia (2-0) on Sunday at 2 p.m. The U.S. can clinch the top seed from Pool A with a victory. Australia has outscored its first two opponents 32-6, including a 17-2 victory over Canada on Friday.

"That was their first game and they played well and maybe Canada didn't have a great day," said Aumiller. "You can only really tell how Australia is going to be when we play them tomorrow. We'll have a good game plan in action, so we'll see what happens."

Canada (1-2) is idle on Sunday and wraps up pool play against England on June 27 at 7:30 p.m.

AUSTRALIA 15, ENGLAND 4
