U.S. Women Sweep Canada in Challenge Series Exhibition

BALDWINSVILLE, N.Y.
  The United States swept Canada in a three-game women's lacrosse challenge series at C.W. Baker High School from July 9-11. The games were scheduled to help the teams prepare for the 2005 IFWLA World Cup which will be held at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., from June 23-July 2, 2005.

In the first game, the U.S. won 22-6 as Erin Elbe (Georgetown) scored three goals in the final eight minutes of the first half to help the U.S. pull away from a slim 4-2 lead. Kate Kaiser (Duke) also had three goals for the U.S.

In the second game, Canada led 2-1 seven minutes into the contest, but the U.S. ripped off 10 straight goals to take control for an 18-3 victory. Amy Appelt (Virginia) had two goals and an assist during the run and finished with a team-high five points on three goals and two assists.

In the final game, the U.S. scored the first 13 goals of the game and cruised to a 16-4 victory. Julie Shaner (Princeton) led the U.S. with four goals while Kaiser, Kellie Thompson (North Carolina) and Quinn Carney (Maryland) added two goals each.
