STX to Sponsor 2005 IFLWA World Cup

BALTIMORE — US Lacrosse has announced that STX will serve as the Official Equipment Sponsor of the 2005 International Federation of Women’s Lacrosse Associations’ World Cup. The IFWLA World Cup will be hosted by US Lacrosse at the U.S. Naval Academy, in Annapolis, Md., from June 23 to July 2.

As part of its sponsorship agreement, STX will sponsor the STX Fan Zone, which will include skills contests, stick demos, an obstacle course, face painting, music and lots of prizes and giveaways. The STX Fan Zone will be open from June 30 to July 2 during games at Navy Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.

"We're thrilled to have STX working with us and supporting this great event," said Sarah Oglesby, World Cup coordinator for US Lacrosse. "STX is a great ambassador for the sport of lacrosse and their involvement will help make this event a showcase for the world’s women’s lacrosse fans."

"STX is both excited and honored to be the official equipment sponsor of the 2005 Women’s World Cup," said Joanna Lignelli, STX Product Manager. "We welcome the world’s premier players, coaches and their fans to our home and the home of lacrosse. We are proud to support women’s lacrosse and wish ‘Good Luck’ to all the teams competing."

A record 10 nations will be participating in the 2005 IFWLA World Cup. The U.S. has won four consecutive world championships, but will be attempting to become the first team to win the World Cup on home soil. Australia defeated the U.S. for the 1986 World Cup, the last time the event was played in the United States.
