U.S. Women's World Cup Training Team Announced

Release: January 31, 2005

BALTIMORE — US Lacrosse announced today the 24-member U.S. Women's World Cup Training Team that will begin preparing for the 2005 International Federation of Women’s Lacrosse Associations (IFWLA) World Cup.

The U.S. roster was paired down from 34 after a final tryout Jan. 22-23 in Orlando, Fla. The 24-member World Cup Training Team will train together until after the US Lacrosse Women’s Division National Tournament held on Memorial Day weekend in Lehigh, Pa., when the roster will be cut to the IFWLA-mandated 16 players.

There is a solid mix of experience on the 24-member World Cup Training Team as 13 players have played in at least one World Cup for the U.S., including four players who have competed in the last three World Cups. Every player on the team has either played for the U-19, Developmental or Elite U.S. teams. Every player has been named an Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association All-American during their playing career.

"I am very excited to have the quality players that we selected on this team," said five-time U.S. World Cup team coach Sue Stahl. "We have a lot of work to do. We now have to become a team."

The 2005 IFWLA World Cup, featuring a record 10 countries, will be hosted by US Lacrosse from June 23 to July 2 at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. The U.S. has won four straight World Cup championships and five of the six championships played all-time. Complete information on the World Cup can be found at www.uslacrosse.org/worldcup.
