LEBANON, Ohio — Four players scored for Pride 2020 Red (Va.) during a game-changing 4-0 run to end the first half as the Virginians pulled away from Players 360 YS 2019 (Ill.) for a 16-9 win on opening day of the US Lacrosse Midwest Summer Splash here today. Eight of the nine U15 division teams saw action at sunny, breezy Lebanon Sports Complex.

Ahead 4-3, Mya Brock took a restart on a draw violation and quickly threw long to teammate Kate Burke, who scored on the doorstep with 6:28 left in the first half. Just over a minute later, Brock rolled inside of Zoe Okicich to score unassisted. And a minute after that, Annie Newton fed Sara Toner cutting in the middle to extend Pride’s lead to 7-3. With less than a minute to play, Jackie Kabiri finished a fast break on the left crease to conclude the decisive run for the Virginians, who would go on to lead by as many as nine goals in the second half.

“We played a really nice second half,” Pride coach Eleanor Gollob told her team afterwards. “We made some good interceptions, had a lot of assists, and some fantastic goals.”

Ashley Viglione led the way with three goals for the Northern Virginia-based Pride, which got two goals apiece from Brock and Hope Heiden. Petry Metry tallied a hat trick for Players 360 YS 2019, which competed admirably but never could cut into Pride’s lead.

Teams from six states are competing for two automatic bids to the eighth annual US Lacrosse National Championships July 19-21 in Hamilton County, Ind. The Road to Grand Park continues tomorrow with the conclusion of pool play and the start of bracket play in the U15 and U14 divisions.

Lakeshore 2020 (Ill.) 7, Styx (Ill.) 4: Carolyn Uhm scored twice for Lakeshore and Natalie Holt and Isabella Taylor exchanged a goal and an assist in the second half to help Lakeshore offset a hat trick by Madison Dalonzo for Styx. Lakeshore held Styx scoreless for a 15-minute stretch of the second half while turning a 5-3 lead into a 7-3 advantage before Dalonzo tallied with just 2:45 remaining.

Wildcat Elite 2020 (Ill.) 16, Players 360 YS 2020 (Ill.) 3: Wildcat Elite shut out Players 360 for the first 20 minutes of the game and scored its first four goals en route to the comfortable win. Annie Thompson and Alaina Hamood scored three goals each for Wildcat Elite. Kate Burritt scored twice for Players 360 YS 2020.

West Coast Starz 2020 (Calif.) 18, Indy United 2020 (Ind.) 2: The Starz took command early and left no doubt by scoring the game’s first 14 goals in the win. Courtney Wayland fed Makenna Armstrong to open the scoring at 21:35, and a minute later Wayland converted a Tatum Lenain assist for a quick 2-0 lead. Lenain would go on to add two goals and another assist in the first half in the dominant performance by the Californians.
