US Lacrosse announces Molly Olney of Seattle, Washington and Audra Tosone of Walpole, Massachusetts as the recipients of 2019 Michael Breschi Scholarships.

Established in 2007 to honor the life and memory of Michael Breschi, son of University of North Carolina men’s lacrosse head coach Joe Breschi, the scholarships are awarded annually to two high school seniors who plan to attend college and are the son or daughter of a coach who serves as a full-time employee of an educational institution.

Criteria considered include academic qualifications, extracurricular activities, internships, community service, and employment experience. US Lacrosse administers the scholarships, with winners selected annually by the Breschi family.

Olney is a 2019 graduate of Bishop Blanchet High School, where she was co-founder and three-year captain of the varsity girls’ lacrosse team. She is attending Washington State University. One of the faculty members at Bishop Blanchet spoke glowingly of Olney’s leadership and commitment to excellence.

“Molly is an extremely diligent and fastidious worker. She doesn’t simply complete tasks; she perfects tasks. She simply produces beautiful work,” said Molly McFarland. "Whatever the endeavor, Molly will do the job well. She takes great pride in her work and her accomplishments. And rightly so. Molly is such a positive influence on her peers.”

Tosone is a 2019 graduate of Walpole High School and is attending the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. She was a three-sport athlete, competing for four years each on her school’s field hockey, ice hockey and lacrosse teams. She also served as team captain for all three squads and was a two-time US Lacrosse All-American. One of her high school coaches notes that she is more than just a talented athlete.

"Audra is a mature, confident and driven young adult who has been such a pleasure to coach,” writes field hockey coach Jennifer Quinn in her letter of recommendation. “She is a strong leader no matter what the sport, and she is undoubtedly an outstanding athlete, but it is her drive, competitiveness and personality that draw her peers in to follow.”

Joe Breschi says that Molly and Audra are deserving recipients of this year’s scholarships.

“There were so many worthy candidates but we have chosen two incredible individuals to receive the US Lacrosse Michael Breschi scholarship this year,” he said. “Molly and Audra both showed amazing passion for family, academics & community throughout their life and lacrosse has been a driving force to impact so many others around them. We are so thankful for US Lacrosse and proud of both Molly & Audra, and we look forward to following their collegiate  journey over the next four years.”

“US Lacrosse is honored to work with Coach Breschi and his family in awarding this scholarship to exemplary student-athletes such as these,” said Ann Kitt Carpenetti, vice president of lacrosse operations at US Lacrosse. “US Lacrosse would like to wish our best to these outstanding scholarship winners. They both have outstanding academic and athletic credentials and are poised for great future successes.”
