The Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) has named five individuals, including two representatives from the United States, to serve on the Women’s Officiating Leadership Team for the 2019 FIL Women’s U19 World Championship. The event will be held in Peterborough, Canada from Aug. 1-10.

Representing the U.S. will be Nancy Madsen as the head assignor and Mara Wager as the head clinician. Both also represented the U.S. at the most recent FIL women’s competition, the 2017 FIL World Cup in Guildford, England with Madsen serving as head assignor and Wager serving as an on-field official.

Also Joining FIL Women’s Officiating Chair Stephen Taylor on  the leadership team will be Jane McCarthy (England) as head administrator and Sachiko Goto (Japan) and Wendy Reynolds (England) as head mentors/assessors.

“With almost 100 games over 100 days of competition in Peterborough, our officials are going to be put through their paces, starting with three days of clinics and testing overseen by the off-field officials and the leadership team,” Taylor said. “I am confident that these five appointees will help us achieve our collective goals and I, on behalf of the FIL, am honored to be working with them.”

Madsen is an nationally-rated NCAA women’s official and also brings over 25 years of rating and assigning experience to the event.

“It is a great honor to be working with officials, athletes and coaches from all over the world in this international event,” Madsen said. “I look forward to the challenge of assigning this tournament and working with the entire leadership team.”

Wager officiates NCAA lacrosse, basketball and volleyball and has umpired at four international events, most recently the 2017 International World Games in Poland, which followed her stint at the World Cup.

“I’m looking forward to working with a great leadership team in 2019 to contribute to the success of the FIL Women’s Lacrosse U19 World Championship,” said Wager.

The on-field officials representing the U.S. at the event will be announced at a later date.
