SPARKS, Md. — US Lacrosse has canceled or postponed its events scheduled for the month of July due to continuing health risks and logistical concerns associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.

The events affected include the US Lacrosse Nationals, scheduled for July 17-19 at United Sports in Downingtown, Pa.; a training camp for the U.S. men’s national team from July 27-29; and the tryouts for the 2021 U.S. women’s national team, scheduled for July 29-31. Both of the national team events were scheduled for US Lacrosse headquarters in Sparks, Md.

The US Lacrosse Nationals and the men’s training team weekend have been canceled while the U.S. women’s team tryouts will be rescheduled for a later date. The application deadline for the U.S. women’s team tryouts, scheduled to close on May 15, will be extended.

US Lacrosse has recently established a Safe Return to Playing Lacrosse medical advisory group and that group will provide guidelines for the lacrosse community to bring the sport back responsibly. A white paper from the group is expected by the end of the month. However, given the planning and travel needs for US Lacrosse Nationals, with teams coming from 15 states, and after consulting with public health experts and reviewing state and federal health guidelines, there was too much uncertainty to move forward with the event for this summer.

US Lacrosse began postponing and canceling events in mid-March due to the COVID-19 pandemic and had already pushed those postponements and cancellations through the month of June. This latest announcement stretches those dates through July.

At the present time, US Lacrosse remains hopeful of proceeding with the National Team Development Program (NTDP) National Combine, scheduled for Aug. 10-14 at US Lacrosse headquarters in Sparks, Md. A decision on the status of that event will be made later this month.

Given the fluid nature of this situation, US Lacrosse will continue to monitor information from federal, state and local public health authorities, and will provide additional updates to the lacrosse community ongoing.
