US Lacrosse, the national governing body of lacrosse, has begun offering all adult coach members the option to initiate a free background screening as part of their membership benefits. To initiate, adult coach members should log into their US Lacrosse account and select “Background Check” under Quick Links.

The no-cost offer comes as part of US Lacrosse’s expanded partnership agreement with the National Center for Safety Initiatives (NCSI), one of the nation’s leading providers of background screening services, and will save coach members anywhere from $20-$65 depending on their state of residence.

US Lacrosse has utilized NCSI’s services since 2006 in an effort to provide the safest environment for lacrosse participants. Previously, background screening was only required for selected US Lacrosse membership categories and for individuals who are involved with selected initiatives, such as the U.S. National Teams Program and coaching certification.

The expanded screening program provides further support to US Lacrosse’s SafeSport Program and extends the impact of the organization’s current screening program

Through the SafeSport Program, US Lacrosse is committed to the safety and well-being of all lacrosse athletes. The paramount principle for US Lacrosse and its members is that any and all forms of sexual abuse and molestation are prohibited and must be reported to authorities immediately.

“I am excited that we have been able to expand on our longstanding relationship with NCSI because this will allow us to provide enhanced membership value to more of our members and reduce barriers for coaches pursuing or maintaining their US Lacrosse CDP coaching certification,” said Bruce Griffin, director of the Center for Sport Science at US Lacrosse. “The continued support of NCSI will greatly enhance our background screening program and the development of our SafeSport Program. This is an important step.”

Recognized as an industry leader, NCSI currently works with the United States Olympic Committee and more than 50 national governing bodies in providing background screenings. NCSI’s clients oversee millions of amateur athletes in the United States.

The new agreement confirms that NCSI shall serve as the “exclusive background screening partner” for US Lacrosse.

“We’re honored to be able to partner with US Lacrosse to help further their efforts to provide safe experiences for their athletes,” said Trish Sylvia, CEO and co-founder of NCSI. “We’re committed to partnering with national governing bodies, such as US Lacrosse, to help ensure every single person in a position of leadership or authority with today’s youth athletes has gone through a comprehensive background screen.”

NCSI is committed to one goal — to protect vulnerable populations, including children, seniors, young athletes, and those with disabilities, from predators. Organizations that serve these individuals need to have protocol and systems in place to prevent harm and protect their participants. NCSI works with organizations to develop, execute and maintain a full-circle protective approach, inclusive of background screening. More information is available at
