What was once a dream officially becomes a reality this weekend when US Lacrosse opens the doors to its new headquarters to the public with a special Grand Opening event from Sept. 10-11.

The weekend schedule begins on Saturday morning with youth player clinics run by the U.S. men’s and women’s national team players and coaching staff. On Saturday evening, this year’s National Lacrosse Hall of Fame class will be inducted at the nearby Grand Lodge.

Sunday’s schedule includes a lacrosse tripleheader and special dedications. Beginning at 9:45 a.m., the IWLCA Building and William G. Tierney Field will be dedicated prior to an intra-squad exhibition by the U.S. women’s national team.

At 12:45 p.m., there will be a dedication of the Richard M. Moran Gallery of the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame and Museum, and that will be followed by an intra-squad exhibition by the U.S. men’s national team.

Capping the day will be a dedication of the 9/11 Memorial Garden to honor the nearly 70 people connected to the sport of lacrosse that died in the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. The dedication ceremony will be followed by an exhibition game between the lacrosse teams of the Fire Department of New York and the New York Police Department.

The new facility is part of $15 million capital campaign raised from private donations that has helped position US Lacrosse to lead the sport into the future.

The complex has already been used for training weekends for teams in both the U.S. men’s and women’s national team programs, and for several educational initiatives. Sunday’s games will be the first lacrosse competitions held at US Lacrosse headquarters. The staff of US Lacrosse moved into the facility in mid-May as work on the complex hit the home stretch. US Lacrosse had been located adjacent to Homewood Field on the Johns Hopkins University campus since its inception in 1998.
