COQUITLAM, B.C. — Timmy Kelly scored three goals during the decisive second quarter as the United States of America broke a 2-2 tie with England to cruise to a 19-6 win at the 2016 Federation of International Lacrosse Under-19 Men’s World Championship today. Team USA finishes pool play with a 4-0 mark and the No. 1 seed in the single-elimination bracket.

The U.S. defense held England scoreless for 28:29, including the entire third quarter, as Alex Roesner scored three goals in that period (four overall) to help the Americans extend to a 16-4 lead. Team USA, which clinched a bye into Thursday’s semifinals with Monday's 17-3 win over the Iroquois Nationals, awaits the winner of a Wednesday quarterfinal that will pit Israel against the loser of tonight’s Australia/Iroquois Nationals pool-play game.

Thanks largely to Austin Henningsen (11 of 13) and Christian Feliziani (11 of 14), Team USA dominated faceoffs, negating England’s use of a ball-control, possession offense that wilted minutes off the clock at a time in some cases.

Two goals by Ryan Conrad, who also finished the game with three, staked the U.S. to an early lead, but England’s Austin Hudson answered with two to forge the first period tie. From there, Kelly took over. He sandwiched unassisted goals, the latter a rocket on a rebound following William Hudson’s uncontrolled save of a Henningsen shot, around a Michael Sowers-to-Jared Bernhardt score to give the U.S. a 5-2 lead.

Kelly later set a screen that Brad Smith used down the left alley to beat William Hudson, who played well with 14 saves for England, for a 6-3 lead. Up a man, Kelly delivered a dagger on the crease with about 10 seconds left in the half to put Team USA up 9-4.

Roesner scored two of his three goals within 5:06 of the third quarter as the U.S. wore down William Hudson. Meanwhile the U.S. defense, which communicated poorly after a Feliziani faceoff win and gave England an empty net for its fourth goal in the second period, shut down the England attack until the game was out of reach in the final quarter.

Team USA will play the first semifinal game at 7:30 p.m. Eastern time Thursday. All games in the FIL U19 World Championship are being streamed live at
