Last week, US Lacrosse announced its commitment to the new WE STAND initiative, a collaboration with the Nation United Foundation (NUF), Black Lacrosse Alliance, and other stakeholders in the lacrosse community aimed at promoting anti-harassment and anti-racism in sports.

In conjunction with that initiative, US Lacrosse is pleased to also announce the rollout of new educational resources designed to empower sports administrators, coaches, and athletes to be leaders in discussing and addressing matters of racism, prejudice, diversity, and inclusion.

US Lacrosse has partnered with the national nonprofit organization RISE for a series of video workshops that further these valuable discussions.

The workshops, lasting 60 to 90 minutes each, are free to attend, but require advance registration and are limited in capacity. The first workshop is scheduled for March 24 at 6 p.m. (ET).

This first workshop, titled ‘Diversity Concepts’ is designed to help participants explore the definition of key terms related to race and diversity, to ask questions they may have about these concepts and how these terms are socially constructed. Examples of terms defined in the session include diversity, inclusion, racism, anti-racism, and equality vs. equity.

“We hope every participant gets a better understanding about something new from this training,” said Donovan Dennis, manager for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion at US Lacrosse. “For those that already understand some of the terms and concepts spoken about, we hope for them to obtain a deeper knowledge base. RISE is going get you to think outside of your normal boundaries to identify, learn, and implement change, not only for yourself but also for those who are part of your lacrosse community.”

Additional RISE workshops hosted by US Lacrosse, with topics that range from bias to understanding how sport can serve as a vehicle for change, will continue in the coming months.

RISE (Ross Initiative in Sports for Equality) was established in 2015 by Stephen M. Ross, chairman of the board and managing general partner of the NFL’s Miami Dolphins. RISE's vision is to create a nation unified through sports, committed to racial equity and social justice.
