The Tidewater Chapter of US Lacrosse is recognized this quarter through the Chapter Recognition Program for its phenomenal support of the local lacrosse community through education, programming and strategic growth. Led by President Jim Old and a strong board of 21 volunteers, the Chapter continuously supports the responsible growth of the sport in conjunction with US Lacrosse’s mission and vision.

A key focus area of the Chapter has been to deliver education and training opportunities to its constituents. At a minimum, the Tidewater Chapter sponsors both a Level 1 and Level 2 Coach Development clinic. Additionally, the Chapter supports both the Men’s and Women’s Lacrosse Officials Associations through financial support for training, certification and recruitment of qualified officials.

The Tidewater Chapter has gone above and beyond to provide an array of programs to the local lacrosse community. A stellar and unique program the Chapter has implemented is their Lacrosse Ambassador Program for U15 girls’ top student-athletes. Players go through a nomination process and the selected Ambassadors serve as role models for younger players and represent the Chapter at events for a term of one year.

The Chapter also conducts a scholarship program, awarded to one male and one female lacrosse scholar-athlete that will be attending college. To coincide with that, the Chapter holds several free college recruiting seminars for high school players. The seminars stress the importance of grades, how players should contact and interact with potential coaches, and other critical path items.

To support the strategic growth of lacrosse in the Tidewater community, the Chapter is currently partnering with public schools to augment their physical education curriculum and teach lacrosse in schools.  The Tidewater Chapter also works closely with the Virginia High School League (VHSL) to promote and grow the game of lacrosse across the entire Tidewater area, seeking to have full varsity status for all public schools within the region.

The Tidewater Chapter continues to impress US Lacrosse and their local lacrosse community with how much they’ve achieved and implemented in their area. Congratulations to the Chapter, on behalf of US Lacrosse.
