Offense, Defense, Midfield
To work on doubling in transitional situations.
Description of Drill-Execution
Start with 4 attackers and 6 defenders. The ball starts at mid field. Offense needs to get off shot or get the ball behind the goal to receive a point. The 6 defenders work on trying to double team and pressuring the ball. As soon as there is a change in possession, the original (6) defenders must work the ball up past midfield against the pressure from the scrambling offense. If the offense is successful in getting the ball behind the cage, the ball carrier drops the ball and there is a change of possession for the defense to work the ball out. This drill is excellent for conditioning and handling pressure in transition.
- Doubling in transition
- Handling pressure and maintaining possession
- Communication on defense
Variations/Progression/Increased difficulty (As your players improve their skills incorporate the following…)
Take out 1 defender to make a 4 v 5 situation. Defense should still double. Send in extra attacker when defense is clearing the ball.
