Description of Drill-Execution
The coach rolls the ball out in front of the goal so it will stop dead. The first attack player is standing right in front of the crease with her back turned away from the goal. When the coach yells “shot” the player must pick up and shoot the ball as quickly and accurately as possible. Once the shot opportunity is over that player clears out.
As soon at the shot is taken, the coach rolls a second ball out in front of the goal so it stops dead. There are 2 attack lines at the top of the 8 facing away from the goal. When the coach yells “shot” they fight for the ground ball and shoot it right away. Whatever player does not get the ball is to play defense.
- Shot accuracy close to goal
- Getting a quick shot off
Variations/Progression/Increased difficulty (As your players improve their skills incorporate the following…)
Add a goalkeeper. The attacker who is shooting must play the drill out till she scores, the goalie makes a save, or the ball goes out of bounds.
