Callum Robinson, a 33-year-old defenseman from Perth, Australia, has gone missing in Mexico, according to multiple reports. He and his brother, Jake, and their friend, Jack Carter Rhoad, didn’t arrive at an Airbnb they booked for Sunday in Baja California, Mexico, which is about a 45-minute drive from San Diego, California.
Robinson, an avid surfer, and his brother and friend were driving his white Chevrolet Colorado down the Pacific Coast.
Lacrosse Australia issued a statement on Instagram.
“Lacrosse Australia joins with the rest of the Australian lacrosse family in expressing its concerns over the whereabouts of Australian lacrosse star Callum Robinson, Callum’s brother Jake and their friend Jack Carter Rhoad who have been missing since 27 April in the Rosarita/Ensenada region of Baja California Notre, Mexico.
“We urge the Australian lacrosse community and our global lacrosse family to continue sharing the post from Callum’s friends and family (located on the Lacrosse Australia Facebook and Instagram story) in the hope that Callum, Jake and Jack are found safe and sound.”
Reports say that Callum Robinson had not been in contact with family since Saturday, April 27, and the search has widened in recent days. Authorities have adopted the use of drones and GPS tracking technology to help locate the trio, according to Perth Now.
Several local media outlets have reported that a woman is in custody in connection to the strange disappearances. Authorities found that the woman had one of the missing men’s mobile phones, and she was also in possession of methamphetamine.
There is a medical concern with Callum Robinson, who is a Type 1 diabetic. His mother, Debra Robinson, has taken to social media with pleas to locate her sons.
“They were due to book into an Airbnb in Rosarito after their camping weekend but they did not show up,” she wrote.
Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade confirmed to Perth Now that the agency is involved in the case.
Robinson is a 2015 Stevenson University graduate and a 2013 NCAA Division III national champion with the Mustangs. He spent six seasons in Major League Lacrosse and the Premier Lacrosse League and has been a fixture with Team Australia in international competition.
