This season, USA Lacrosse will celebrate the accomplishments of players across Divisions I, II and III each Tuesday with Player of the Week recognition.

Players of the Week are selected by USA Lacrosse Magazine staff and contributors based on a variety of factors, including individual performance and impact on team success.

DIVISION I

Emmet Carroll, Penn

Penn needed a stopper to take down a Delaware team that had impressed in its first few games. Emmet Carroll was the answer, as the senior saved 16 shots and allowed 10 goals in an 11-10 Quakers win. He also stopped 17 shots in an 11-7 win over Albany on Tuesday, giving him 33 saves and two wins last week.

After the strong week, Carroll is saving 60.3 percent of shots through three games.

DIVISION II

Rob Pensabene, Lenoir-Rhyne

Lenoir-Rhyne held Adelphi to just three goals, which seemed unfathomable in the shot clock era. But it wasn’t for lack of trying on the part of Adelphi. The Panthers actually outshot the Bears 38-36 in the game. There just happened to be a Rob Pensabene-shaped wall inbetween the pipes for Lenoir-Rhyne.

Adelphi put 15 shots on net, and Pensabene stopped 12 of them. After four games, the senior netminder has saved 67.1 percent of shots and has allowed fewer than six goals per game. He’s making just shy of 12 saves per game.

DIVISION III

Andrew Cook, Christopher Newport

The USA Lacrosse Division III Preseason Player of the Year had quite a weekend, as he amassed 13 total points in games against Stevenson and Ohio Wesleyan. Christopher Newport has utilized him as more than just a high-side power option; he’s become a fluid part of the offense, getting to the middle with ease and hitting open teammates underneath — not to mention burying his own looks.

Cook is benefiting from the sheer tonnage of checks absorbed by the likes of Alex Brendes and the smooth slips of Coby Auslander in half-field sets. Cook is a true multi-faceted offensive weapon.
