Two impressive road wins by Georgia solidified its hold on No. 1 this week, while Clemson Club and Pitt Club were among the climbers in the newest WCLA Division I Top 20.
The top-ranked Bulldogs recorded road victories at No. 10 Northeastern and No. 11 Boston College Club last weekend and are the last undefeated club in the nation. They have held the No. 1 ranking throughout the 2024 season.
After losing to BC in the national championship game the past two years, getting the win in Chestnut Hill was especially gratifying for the Dawgs.
“That was a long-time coming,” said Georgia’s senior captain and club president, Katelyn Sparks. “BC is a phenomenal team, and they always bring it when they play us.”
Georgia trailed 4-0 early in the game against BC but fought its way back for a 13-11 victory. The Bulldogs carry a 13-0 record and the No. 1 seed into this week’s SWLL tournament.
“This has been a different kind of season for us,” Sparks said. “We didn’t go to a couple of tournaments that we have travelled to in past years and wanted to come up here and play BC again. I’m really proud of what we’ve accomplished, but we’re not done yet.”
Elsewhere, No. 9 Pitt Club enjoyed a 4-0 week, including a win over No. 20 Penn State Club, and climbed three spots in the ranking, while No. 13 Clemson Club jumped four spots this week after wins over Tennessee and South Carolina.
The WCLA regular season is quickly drawing to a close with league tournaments taking center stage. Team selections for the WCLA championship tournament will be announced the week of April 22.
